How it works

The Palette Evolution Generator takes your base palette and automatically generates 12 smart variations, each with a different visual character.

Evolution Types

  • Pastel: Reduces saturation and increases lightness. Ideal for soft, feminine, and wellness brands.
  • Vivid: Maximizes saturation. Perfect for gaming, sports, and entertainment.
  • Muted: Desaturates and balances lightness. Great for editorial and luxury design.
  • Dark: Dramatically reduces lightness. Useful for dark backgrounds and night mode.
  • Light: Increases lightness. Ideal for light backgrounds and airy design.
  • Warm Shift: Pushes hues toward reds, oranges, and yellows.
  • Cool Shift: Pushes hues toward blues, greens, and purples.
  • Monochrome: Removes saturation while keeping the lightness structure.
  • Complementary: Rotates each color 180° on the color wheel.
  • Analogous: Shifts each hue by +25° to create close harmonies.
  • High Contrast: Amplifies lightness differences between colors.
  • Retro: Applies a vintage treatment with reduced saturation and medium lightness.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the conversion work?
Each evolution type adjusts the Hue (H), Saturation (S), and Lightness (L) of colors intelligently based on the desired effect. For example, Pastel reduces saturation to 45% and raises lightness to ~88%.
Can I use my own palette?
Yes. Click each color to edit it with the color picker, paste HEX codes with the "Paste HEX" button, or use "Random" to generate a new base palette.
What formats does it export?
Exports in 4 professional formats: CSS Variables (:root), SCSS Variables ($var), JSON Tokens (standard design tokens), and Tailwind Config (theme.extend.colors).
Can I filter which variations to see?
Yes. Use the filter buttons to show or hide specific variations. You can also use "Select All" / "Deselect All" to toggle quickly.
How do I copy a single color?
Click any color in any variation to copy its HEX code to clipboard. You can also copy an entire palette with the "Copy" button.
Can I edit a variation?
Yes. Each variation has an "Edit in Generator" button that opens that palette in the main Palette Generator, where you can adjust colors, assign roles, check accessibility, and export in more formats.
What is "Use as Base"?
It takes the colors from that variation and makes them your new base palette. This lets you chain evolutions: for example, create a pastel version and then darken it for unique results.
Can I send my palette from the Generator?
Yes. In the Variations tab of the Palette Generator you will find a direct link to this tool that automatically sends your current palette.
